Every move you make on the internet is tracked, not just once or twice, but multiple times. Checking out a story on a main stream news website can result in more than 50 different trackers collecting data on what you are reading, your location and the type of device that you are using. Once you have been tracked you are then fair game for retargeting where you are followed around the internet and ads pop up related to the websites that marked you.
While there are many tools that can help you avoid detection, some of them compromise the end user experience or require a bit of effort, and they end up not being used. Electronic Frontier Foundatation recently released Privacy Badger, a plug in for Chrome and Firefox. With Privacy Badger you can learn who is tracking you and block undesirables to reduce the number of annoying ads you are subjected to.
The control panel showing who is tracking you can be interesting and gives you an extra level of control. But Privacy Badger is on the job so you don't have to be. If the same site tracks you three times it will automatically be blocked.
So now you can have your pie and eat it too!
